Smart City Expo USA Postponement Update: From Storms to Solutions
Kudos to Smart City Expo USA’s Swift Response and How Botcopy’s AI Assistant Adapted on the Fly
Setting the Scene
Last week, Botcopy’s team members (and many other teams around the world) were all geared up and buzzing with excitement, ready to head to NYC for the Smart City Expo USA.
We proudly shared promotions about our speaking slot and introduced a state-of-the-art Botcopy bot — the Smart City AI Assistant — for the event’s website.
The Smart City AI Assistant
This bot we put together for SCE USA was unique. It was multilingual, ADA compliant, served up a special discount code and handled lead gen with Botcopy’s in-chat custom forms.
Plus, the solution was supercharged with LLM technology – namely Google’s generative AI (Gen App Builder) plus Google Cloud Dialogflow and BigQuery for handling tasks and storing data. It could tackle queries from speaker details to event topics.
The results in the screen shot below was adeptly generated from a library of event-related text that was over a hundred pages long!
Additionally, if users came to the site off of a specific email promotion, the bot recognized them in a snap, offering tailored greetings — a surefire way to amp up engagement with Botcopy Messenger’s amazing ref parameter detection.
Why Smart City Expo USA was so important to us and still is.
SCE USA team is laser-focused on equity, sustainability, and inclusion, making cities smarter with technology, fresh ideas, and conversational AI. Our Minnesota DMV solution recently won the Google NEXT Award in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. At Botcopy, we’re all about digital inclusion, so we were all over this event!
Nature’s Curveball
On the Friday before the event, NYC saw a storm for the books, as rains equivalent to months’ worth deluged the city in mere hours, prompting a state of emergency. It was evident that the event couldn’t go ahead. And the reasons were clear:
- Safety: The floods and the stress on city infrastructure meant the primary concern was the safety of everyone involved.
- Logistics: Such extreme weather might’ve derailed event preparations, setups, and access to the venue.
- City’s Response: With city officials, including Mayor Adams, deep in post-storm response, their focus needed to be on immediate relief.
Adjusting on the Fly
A shoutout to the Smart City Expo USA team for their prompt communication, helping us recalibrate our bot. Instead of a registration assistant, it became a damage control tool, offering guidance on the postponement, next steps, and communication channels.
Now, the bot efficiently sorts inquiries by user type — a potential lifeline given the sheer number of impacted attendees. If you’ve got questions about the postponed event, our Smart City AI Assistant is ready to assist. Check it out.
The Bigger Picture
This whole water-logged episode underscores the importance of crafting resilient, smart cities. Preparedness is crucial. Whether having a contingency plan (or bot) in place before a crisis or acting swiftly post-event, every effort counts.
At Botcopy, our passion lies in bolstering the public sector with AI solutions that serve all citizens efficiently and inclusively. We thrive in a crisis and we have your back, always.
