If you’ve signed up for a Botcopy account but haven’t had a chance to add your first bot, this article is for you.

Just the fact that you’ve gotten this far is wonderful. Let’s reflect on all the smart things you did to get to this point:

  1. You had the realization you needed a smart chatbot on your website.
  2. You chose a powerful NLU framework — Dialogflow — the best of the best.
  3. You then realized you needed a way to get your Dialogflow agent onto your website in a rich, custom way.
  4. You found Botcopy, and signed up for a free account using our Google OAuth to connect your Dialogflow account in a few clicks.

Bravo! Now’s a great time to take the next baby step on the path. This step can be done in under two minutes. So let’s get to it.

Add a bot to your Botcopy dashboard

The very first step after signing up for Botcopy is to add a bot.

(If you’ve already done this, congrats. You’re ready for our Botcopy Pre-launch Checklist, coming soon.)

To add a bot, you first need to be logged in. So let’s go to portal.botcopy.com/login and click the blue Google button to log in to Botcopy.

After you click, a window will pop up letting you choose an account to continue to Botcopy. Pick the Gmail address you used to set up your Botcopy account and Dialogflow agent.

Once you click you’ll be taken to your account portal, pictured below.

Simply click on the square “Add a bot” button. Watch what happens next:

Voila! You’ve added your first bot — good old Bot 1.

You‘ll quickly want to rename this bot because “Bot 1" isn’t a such a great name.

To do this, click on the bot. Here’s what you’ll see:

In the dark blue panel, find the field entitled “Bot Name.” Change Bot 1 to a new name and hit ENTER or RETURN. This new name will appear in the header of your chat widget that end-users see. (You can easily change this name, but for now, as a placeholder, add something that indicates your brand name.)

Next, find the field for Dashboard Label. This value is the private name you’ll see on your bot within your dashboard to help you stay organized. You’re the only one who will see this name, and it can be changed at any time.

Last, select the Dialogflow agent (brain) you want to connect to this bot (web chat widget) by using the dropdown menu at the top of the blue panel where it says “Current agent”.

Let’s head back to our dashboard and see what’s up.

Yay! We’ve added our first bot, connected it to a Dialogflow agent (hence the green ACTIVE), and named the bot for both the widget header and dashboard. Way to get your bot in gear. 😉

Let’s stop at this point and take a breath. Because not only did you set up a Botcopy account, you also added a bot. All in a day’s work. 👊

The next step is obviously all about adding style customizations to your actual web chat widget and getting it up onto your site for all to see and use. How to do that and more without any coding will all be explained in the Botcopy Pre-Launch Checklist — an article as short and sweet as this one, coming soon. Or if you’re eager to dive in, you can check out this in-depth post on how to personalize your Botcopy bot.
